Match Reports – Round 10 vs South Coast Taipans

Not as good as last time where we got a clean sweep but almost as good.

25 points out of a possible 27 was a good performance which extended our lead at the top of the Club Championship by 17 points.

The 12 boys were brilliant against a team fighting to steal their hold on 4th position. The 14 boys with 5 players out maintained their 100% record to make it 10 on the trot whilst the 16 girls fought their way back into the top 4.

The two senior teams battled hard and right back in the race to play semi final futsal with the womens a win outside whilst the mens are now in the 4.

12 Boys

Magic’s 12 boys outlasted Taipans last weekend at Morris Iemma Centre in an exciting 4 – 3 victory.

After a disastrous start – conceding in the first minute – the boys fought back and restored parity a few minutes later.

With a sea-sawing game hanging in the balance a late goal saw the Magic hit the lead for the final time in the match.

The boys held on for the final minutes to ground out a tight victory.

12 Girls

Back to full strength this week, for the first time in ages, the girls turned on the style with a clinical performance against the Taipans. The first decent chance of the game came when Angelique put Princess through and she laid a nice pass to Georgia who thundered a shot against the post. Bianca was first on the scorecard after a neat exchange of passing with Princess to put us 1-0 up. The girls had quite a few chances after the opener but couldn’t quite find the mark when it mattered. That was until Bianca started a move with a swift pass to Georgia who put Princess on her way to make 2-0 after 5 minutes.

Georgia then won a 50-50 ball on the half way and broke quickly down the court to make it 3-0 after 8 minutes. She then tried to set one up for Siena shortly after which drew a good save from their keeper. Siena didn’t have to wait long though as she slotted home after a nice pass by Dimity. Just a minute later she had the ball in the net again after Chiara laid the pill off to her to calmly slot home. Just on half time Dimity won the ball and squared off to Chiara to tap in at the back post to make it 6-0 going into the break.

With just a minute of the 2nd half gone Angelique won the ball on the half way and drove through the middle to increase the margin. Georgia then had another go at the post shortly after as the ding it made was to become an attractive sound to all!

The Taipan girls then knuckled down for a sustained effort and were unlucky not to score but Sheridan saved smartly to her right. Angelique started our next successful foray when she won the ball and had a crack at goal, only to see the shot saved and come off, yes you’ve guessed it, the post…but the ever alert Princess raced in fast and tapped in the rebound to make 8-0 after 6 minutes. Taipans tried to hit back quickly and sent a long ball over for their pivot but Sheridan was quickly off the line and blocked the shot by putting her body on the line.

Princess was next to test the metal work with a fierce shot off, just to be different, the cross bar! Not long after Georgia had the ball in the net after a slight deflection off an unlucky Taipans player. On 13 minutes Dimity finished off nicely, scoring from a great move involving Chiara, Siena and Marisa. Siena was in the thick of it again when she put one on a platter for Dimity’s 2nd on 14 minutes. She then completed her hat trick after a quick throw by Sheridan to Marissa, who moved the ball onto Chiara who in turn worked it to Dimity to knock home making 12-0.

With less than 2 minutes of the game remaining Steve re-introduced Princess who went on a scoring rampage, helping her self to one of the quickest hat tricks witnessed, giving her a total of 5 for the game. Chiara set her in motion for the first with neat pass through traffic, which after a trademark turn and spin, she calmly slotted home. Princess then started and finished the next when she won the ball in her own half, run amok through all comers to put the ball away. Bianca then set up the final goal of the game when she put Princess through to make it 15-0 and top off a fine performance by the girls.

14 Boys

With 5 boys out, today was always going to be a tough game. Not as sharp and dynamic as we have been in recent weeks, what the boys lacked in numbers they made up for it in grit, heart and determination.

10 out of 10 but with more boys missing next week the going isn’t getting any easier.

14 Girls

Firstly before I report I would like to say Congratulations to the girls for the win against Sydney City Eagles the week before. Nadia you held the team together and walked away with a great result, we are proud! Also would like to say thank you to Lydia who I threw in the deep end to manager the girls while I was away and all reports are good ones, maybe a little too good, think you may have to be there for the 14 girls next year, yes already nominated!

Last round we defeated this team, could we do it again? I knew that they would be out to try their best to beat us, their best was not good enough. The whistle blew and the game began strong, the way that you Inner West Girls were moving that ball was Magic, we had first, second and third shot at goal, all missed but in the 9th minute Anya shot the ball out to Lorena who made a run down the side and put the ball to Maddie’s feet and she delivered. I think you girls got a little excited and let go a bit to allow them to score and equalise in the 11th minute.

Nadia kept working hard, and it was not long before she landed a great ball in front of goal and allowed Maddie her 2nd goal, a minute later with some great team work Vic and Nadia put another away. We went into halftime 3 – 1 up on Taipans.

The 2nd half started and the Taipan girls were attacking hard and defending just as good, the girls could not get a break, it was not from lack of trying. Nicole found herself working a little harder and Mini had to keep a strong hold in defence. Both teams had shots on goal but with some great saves by Nicole and a few unlucky shots from our girls nothing changed. With a minute to go Vic made a break and scored the final goal of the game. Good game girls.

Final score 4 – 1. Next week we are back at home versing Boomerangs.

16 Boys

Coming into this match the boys had some good form under their belts so this was a match we felt they should have won convincingly.

They started the game off a bit slow missing a few chances. The 1st goal came in the 8th minute through a long pass from Blade which saw Zac hit the post from a perfectly timed volley and Blair scored from the rebound. In the 11th minute Blade scored our 2nd with thunderous shot from just inside the Taipans half which made the score 2 nil. The boys showed some great passing and team work and 4 minutes before half time Blair scored his 2nd goal to make it 3-0. A minute before half time the Taipans scored to make the score 3-1 at half time.

The 2nd half was a bit quieter, our boys had a few chances, they hit the post a couple of with shots from Manny and Blade. They also defended well late in the game to keep the Taipans scoreless in the 2nd half the final score remained 3-1 Magics way.

16 Girls

It was great to see the 16 girls back in the winner’s circle. They showed how the passing game works, making the most of the opportunities by moving the ball around. It was just what their coach had been working on. The final score of 6-0 reflected the dominance shown by the team on the day.

They will need to bring a similar game and mind set to the next match when they take on the Boomerangs.
